The aria comes from Geminiano Giacomelli’s opera Gianguir (Teatro San Cassiano, 1728) and the recording from our London Launch in October 2019. It is special to us because this aria was actually sung for the very first time in our theatre. Can you imagine how incredible it would be to see and hear Ann sing it once more in the reconstructed theatre?

Coronavirus has hit everyone so hard and we grieve for all those loved ones lost. Sadly, it has even touched our Teatro San Cassiano family. Our heart goes out to all those affected and we want to send our love to the entire world and indeed to every person who is suffering currently. Our thoughts are with you all.

But for obvious reasons, we especially want to send our love to two special groups.

First, we want to salute the stoic Venetians in our beloved Venice, of whom so many will have lost their livelihoods. We think of you every day struggling to survive at this difficult time. We know how resilient you are and how you always come back stronger, and always with a smile. You are an example to the world and we hope your stoicism is a gift the world will embrace at this difficult time.

Second, our thoughts are with the wonderful theatres, impresari, maestri, singers, musicians, actors, dancers, performers, choreographers, directors, and all the thousands of administrators, technicians and support staff that deliver music, theatre and art day after day. We love you, we miss you and we are thinking of you every day! We know that many performing arts organisations simply do not have deep enough reserves and so the pain will be great. But like any dark hour, it makes us realise the necessity for culture in our lives; and so it makes us ever more determined to work even harder to restore the Teatro San Cassiano to Venice so that when we are all through this dreadful time we can once more embrace life and revel in the splendour of opera and of Venice.
