We featured Paul’s meeting with Sir Simon back in August 2021. He was a great supporter and follower of our project, always speaking with great enthusiasm about the Teatro Cassiano.

On hearing the news shortly before his talk at the Circolo Italo-Britannico, Venice, Paul chose to dedicate the evening to Sir Simon’s memory and legacy.

Paul noted “Sir Simon was one of the greatest musicologists of the twentieth century and, indeed, it was his volume Venetian Opera in the Seventeenth Century, which I carried with me when I first toured the original Venetian theatre sites exploring whether this incredible project was remotely feasible. Sir Simon was thus with us at the beginning and will be at the end. May he rest in peace.”
