Venice Rising Series - Regeneration, Impact, and Sustainability: Reconstructing the Teatro San Cassiano of 1637 in 2021
Thank you to all those who attended the very enjoyable webinar on Monday 1 February.
Please click the link below to view Paul Atkin and Dame Jane Glover, DBE, set out their vision and the need for the Teatro San Cassiano project:
A huge thank you to Dame Jane, and to our perfect hosts Professor Holger Klein and Professor Giuseppe Gerbino.
We are especially indebted to Casa Muraro and to Columbia University and of course to the Italian Academy and the Department of Art History and Archaeology.
Organized by Casa Muraro, Columbia’s Center for Venetian Studies, and co-sponsored by the Department of Art History and Archaeology and the Italian Academy of Advanced Studies in America, Venice Rising offers a series of online lectures, interviews, and workshops on Venice’s transformations, past, present and future.
The Teatro San Cassiano remains committed to delivering regeneration, impact and sustainability for Venice. The theatre will be as much about the future as it is the past. By putting Venice and Venetians at the centre of this project, the theatre will offer Venice a sympathetic contribution to a commercially secure and environmentally sustainable future. Both in build and in operation, the Teatro San Cassiano will create new jobs, new businesses, new opportunities, and all driven out of an ethos for a sustainable regeneration of Venice. Its outreach programme will reimagine the meaning of “public opera” in the 21st century.
